General Notes:
1) The City of San Jose Benchmark System is based upon the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29) in feet.
2) It was developed in 1977-1978 by the City of San Jose in conjunction with the local surveying firm of George S. Nolte and Associates.
3) In 2004, the Office of the City Land Surveyor conducted an exercise to verify the physical existence of the benchmarks in the system, as well as to establish a rough 3-meter accuracy State Plane Coordinate (North American Datum of 1983) latitude/longitude position of each remaining benchmark using a handheld GPS device.
4) An updated wall map depicting the locations of all benchmarks is on display in the Office of the City Land Surveyor.
5) Comments/questions are welcome, as well as discrepancy reports, and should be directed to the Office of the City Land Surveyor at the location above.
